This fall season of limited-edition whiskey releases continues with Angel’s Envy 2019 Cask Strength Bourbon Finished In Port Barrels.
This latest iteration of the collectible expression clocks in at 122.4 proof. A tad more than 14,000 bottles of Angel’s Envy Cask 2019 Cask Strength will be available for purchase in the U.S.
The series first launched in 2012. Throughout each year, the Angel’s Envy team puts aside barrels with “special characteristics,” says Wes Henderson, CIO and co-founder of Angels Envy, and then whittles down these barrels come late summer, so that each year’s release is different.
Describing the 2019 cask strength, Henderson says it’s like the 2017 and 2018 versions “had a baby.” The 2017 bottling was more port-forward, while the 2018 backed off from those notes in highlighting more of the bourbon flavors. Henderson says that consumers will find the 2019 to be somewhere between those two takes, while being “very approachable, especially as a high-proof whiskey.”
The 2019 is a blend of bourbons of different ages, and different times spent finishing in ex-port barrels.
Angel’s Envy 2019 Cask Strength has notes of honey, apple, butterscotch, toffee and mellow vanilla, the company reports, as well as hints of oak and toast. On the nose, notes of honeyed apple, peach, apricot and overripe banana are present, along with black tea, toasted oak with a slight char and faint floral notes. The medium-length finish includes tannin notes trailing into black tea.
Angel’s Envy 2019 Cask Strength is available in AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MD, MA, MI, MN, MO, NJ, NV, NH, NY, OH, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, Washington D.C. and Domestic Military. Suggested retail price for a 750-ml. bottle — which may vary by market — is $199.99.
