Alabama, a control state, has passed an emergency order that allows licensed liquor stores to sell product via curbside or takeout, as COVID-19 continues to plague the nation.
This temporary law does not allow liquor stores to sell cocktails or other open alcoholic beverages to-go.
This change comes as the state closes up to 78 liquor store locations for the sake of public safety. Stores that do remain open will operate under shortened hours.
Customers who purchase products through curbside or takeout are permitted one 750-ml. bottle of spirits, one 750-ml. bottle of wine or a six-pack of beer. All items must be sealed in unopened containers.
ID laws have not changed.
The move mirrors how many breweries, distilleries and wineries have shifted their sales focus as Coronavirus concerns close down on-premise tasting rooms.
Other states have reacted more aggressively towards COVID-19 and liquor stores, with Pennsylvania closing all its beverage alcohol retail locations indefinitely.
