Pennsylvania Closes All Retail Liquor Stores to Control Coronavirus

In addition to restaurants and bars, the state of Pennsylvania has ordered all retail liquor stores closed in the fight against the spreading Coronavirus.

“This was a tremendously difficult decision to make,” the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board says in a statement put out Monday afternoon. “In these uncertain and unprecedented times, the public health crisis must take priority over the sale of wine and spirits, as the health and safety of our employees and communities is paramount.”

Pennsylvania is a control state.

Additionally, the state’s e-commerce site will no longer accept orders, until further notice.

“We at the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board have been in constant contact with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Governor’s Office during this very challenging time,” the statement continues. “The health and safety of our consumers and employees is our top priority, and we take our responsibility very seriously. It is why we announced the suspension of in-store tastings and events last week, enhanced our store sanitation procedures and ultimately began closing stores in Montgomery, Bucks, Chester and Delaware counties over the weekend.”

“We will remain in contact with the Department of Health and the Governor’s Office to ensure we are ready to act quickly to resume operations when it is deemed safe to do so,” the statement adds.
