SGWS Announces 2021 VolunCheer of the Year and Holiday Campaign Results

Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits has announced the recipient of its 2021 VolunCheer of the Year Award, Marc Anglade, Key Account Executive from Southern Glazer’s in South Carolina.

VolunCheers is Southern Glazer’s grassroots employee volunteering and giving program meant to empower team members to engage with charities in their local communities.

These efforts are managed through the company’s enterprise-wide internal digital portal, VolunCheers Online, where employees can connect with each other, organize, and promote volunteering and giving activities.

For the annual VolunCheer of the Year program, employees voted from among a group of 2021 VolunCheer of the Month winners to determine who would be selected to receive a prize of $5,000 donated to the charity of the winner’s choice. Anglade, who received special recognition for his efforts to provide back-to-school supplies to his community during the month of August, selected Epworth Children’s Home to be the recipient of Southern Glazer’s $5,000 donation.

In 2021, Anglade spearheaded a volunteer event benefiting Epworth Children’s Home. He worked with his team of employee volunteers to pack more than 30 backpacks with over 300 school supplies for displaced children. Anglade also fundraised over $1,000 with the help of supplier partners and employees to provide the donated school supplies, as well as 76 donated refurbished iPads.

“My charity is a United Methodist organization (my denomination) that cares for children who have been removed from their home due to abuse and/or neglect. I have a personal relationship with several employees of the Children’s Home and mentor some of the kids on weekends,” says Anglade. “Epworth Children’s Home is a wonderful place that provides safety, food, clothing, education, housing, and mostly, God’s love. It is a place where children can learn to thrive.”

Southern Glazer’s also rounded out 2021 with its annual Holiday Giving Campaign, during which the company pledged to donate $25 to Water.org for every volunteer hour logged on VolunCheers Online throughout November and December.

SGWS employees logged more than 1,325 volunteer hours, resulting in a total donation of $33,118.75 to support Water.org.

“Breaking barriers in the communities in which we live and work is the only way to lead as a Company,” says Wayne E. Chaplin, Chief Executive Officer, Southern Glazer’s. “Our employees, who are setting the bar and making positive movements in their communities, enable us to make a greater impact in a meaningful way. The VolunCheers program here at Southern Glazer’s allows us to recognize our employees’ dedication to making a difference.”
