Leading independent Kentucky alcohol retail chain Liquor Barn has been acquired by the fast-growing digital delivery company Gopuff.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In purchasing Liquor Barn, Gopuff acquires 23 retail locations that span across the Bluegrass State.
Gopuff specializes in the delivery of every-day consumer items, including baby and pet products, cleaning supplies, over-the-counter medicine, food and alcohol, along with local items. This new deal gives Kentucky customers broader access to Gopuff’s delivery options, utilizing Liquor Barn’s existing infrastructure into Gopuff’s network of micro-fulfillment centers.
Gopuff and Blue Equity will work in partnership to integrate Liquor Barn’s customer loyalty, staff and locations with Gopuff’s assortment of services and technology-enabled instant delivery.
“As a customer-focused business, we are delighted to partner with Gopuff given their extraordinary commitment to the customer experience,” says Jonathan Blue, chairman of Blue Equity and Liquor Barn. “Through this partnership, we will continue to deliver beer, wine and spirits, and will add thousands of new items that our customers need in every-day life. We are excited to join Gopuff in their mission and forge the future of the Instant Needs category together.”
“The Liquor Barn team has built a trusted, strong brand, and Gopuff is the ideal partner to bolster the business into this next era of growth and meet customers’ evolving needs,” Blue adds. “We look forward to working closely with Gopuff as we integrate Liquor Barn into their business and serving as strategic advisors on alcohol related initiatives.”
This news follows Gopuff’s $350-million purchase of California-based BevMo! in early 2020. That netted the delivery company 161 alcohol retail stores throughout California, Arizona and Washington.
Founded in 2013, Gopuff currently operates more than 450 fullfilment sites.
The alcohol delivery world continues to evolve and consolidate. Last February, Uber bought Drizly.
