SGWS Announces Leadership Appointments in Nevada

Rodney Strong

Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits has named John Landry to the position of Executive Vice President and General Manager, Nevada, and Kim Scarpone to Senior Vice President, Spirits, Nevada, effective immediately.

Landry will report jointly to Larry Ruvo, Senior Managing Director, Nevada, and Patrick Daul, President, West Region, and will have responsibility for leading all aspects of the business in Nevada, including shaping the vision and culture of the business, the company says.

Scarpone will be responsible for the company’s spirit performance in the state, reporting directly to Landry.

Landry most recently served as Executive Vice President and General Manager for the company’s Coastal Pacific Wine & Spirits division in Washington — a position he held since joining Southern Glazer’s in 2012. Later in his tenure with the company, he assumed additional responsibilities for the division in the company’s Alaska and Nebraska markets.

“John’s extensive industry experience and background make him a perfect fit for our unique and important market,” says Ruvo. “I look forward to working with John to strengthen and enhance our already-outstanding team and build on our industry-leading position in Nevada.”

Prior to joining Southern Glazer’s, Landry held senior roles in the industry with the Boston Beer Company, Diageo Beer Company and Diageo Wine and Spirits in many markets across the U.S.

“John is a proven leader at Southern Glazer’s who is well respected by his internal colleagues, as well as our supplier partners,” says Daul. “We are thrilled to welcome him to our West Region team and look forward to continuing to fuel our growth and that of our customers in Nevada.”

Scarpone’s most recent role was Executive Vice President and General Manager, Pennsylvania, where she was responsible for the company’s performance in the state. Prior to that, she held the role of Vice President, Control States, for the company’s Lauber Fine Wine & Spirits Division. In this role, Scarpone managed casino, national accounts and grocery retail business in Pennsylvania.

Prior to that, she held various roles of increasing responsibility since joining Southern Glazer’s in 2007. She started with the company as a Casino Specialist and in 2010, and was promoted to Vice President of National Accounts and Casino Business, working closely with suppliers and buyers.

Scarpone holds a Diploma of Wine & Spirits from WSET and is a certified instructor. She is an active member of the Society of Wine Educators and Certified Specialist of Wine. She also is a graduate of Southern Glazer’s premier leadership development program, the Exceptional Leaders Program.

“As I assume my new role, I am excited to welcome Kim to my team,” Landry says. “Given her experience in the casino business and extensive knowledge of wine and spirits, I am certain that we will be poised for continued growth and success for our spirits suppliers and customers in the Nevada market.”
