Cinco de Mayo will not be the same this year, since many in the U.S. are still sheltering in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even if we can’t go out, let us raise a glass on May 5th for the Mexican celebration and look forward to better days. Here are five cinco tequila cocktails to consider:
Pineapple & Spice Margarita
2 oz. Casamigos Reposado tequila
1 oz. Pineapple juice
½ oz. Lime juice
¼ oz. Ginger syrup
½ oz. Agave syrup
4 dashes Hell Fire Bitters
Build in mixing tin, add ice, shake, double strain over fresh cubes, garnish with ginger and serve in a rocks glass with ice.

Cucumber-Coconut Margarita
1 ½ oz. Patrón Silver tequila
2 oz. Coconut water
½ oz. Fresh lime juice
½ oz. Simple syrup
7 Thin slices of cucumber
Combine ingredients (including 4 of the cucumber slices) in a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously with ice to chill. Strain onto fresh ice in a highball glass. Garnish with remaining 3 cucumbers.

Passionate Skrew Margarita
1 ½ oz. Skrewball peanut butter whiskey
½ oz. Corralejo Reposado tequila
½ oz. Fresh lime juice
1 ½ oz. Passion fruit puree
Rim a Margarita glass with salt and powdered cayenne pepper (or tajin). Shake all ingredients with ice in shaker. Pour into prepared glass. Garnish with lime wedge.

Spicy Grapefruit Sour

2 oz. Corralejo Reposado Tequila
1 oz. Grapefruit juice
1 oz. Lime juice
½ oz. Jalapeño simple syrup
1 Egg white
Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake hard to chill and combine ingredients. Strain out ice and shake hard again. Strain into glass.

Spicy Ginger Margarita
2 oz. Los Arango blanco tequila
1 oz. Lime juice
½ oz. Ginger simple syrup 3 slices Fresh-cut jalapeño
Tajín for rim
Rim aglass with tajín. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake to chill and combine ingredients. Fine strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
