The Macallan Launches Edition No. 5 Scotch Whisky

The Macallan has announced Edition No. 5, the latest entry in their Edition Series.

While previous releases, Edition No.1 and Edition No.2, highlighted the influence cask aging had on the taste and flavor, Edition No. 3 provided insight into aromas, and No. 4 focused on structure.

The Macallan Edition No. 5 highlights the whisky’s natural color. For this release, the distillery partnered with the Pantone Color Institute to create The Macallan Edition Purple, the shade of the packaging.

The Macallan Edition No. 5 aged in American Oak casks. It has a color of “sunlit barley,” and aromas of vanilla and toffee with notes of oak, nutmeg, ginger, lemon basil and pear, the company says. The palate is caramel moving into poached peaches and ripe pear, the company reports, followed by a toffee sweetness with light oak spices in the form of nutmeg and hints of ginger. The ABV is 48.5%.

The Macallan Edition No. 5 will be available in the U.S. market and select global markets starting this September for a suggested retail price of $120 per 750-ml. bottle.
