Gary’s Wine & Marketplace to Open in Napa Valley

Leading New Jersey-based alcohol beverage and gourmet food retailer, Gary’s Wine & Marketplace, announced today that it will open its first west coast store in St. Helena, California.

The new business will take over the former Dean & DeLuca space.

Owner and CEO, Gary Fisch (pictured atop), signed the lease Monday, July 22, and estimates that the store will be up and running by mid September. Fisch got his start in the wine industry 40 years ago in the Napa Valley with a visit to Louis M. Martini, and is now opening across the street from the iconic winery.

“After visiting year after year for Premiere Napa Valley, I am thrilled to have a permanent place in St. Helena,” says Fisch. “It felt right to open our first location on the West Coast among so many incredible winemakers, vintners, and friends.”

The new Gary’s location will feature over 600 wine labels focusing primarily on Napa Valley wines, while also including among the largest and most diverse selection of hand-selected imports in the area, the company says. Fisch envisions the St. Helena store as being, “the best wine shop in the Napa Valley.”

Gary’s will carry more than 250 spirits and beer products, and 200-plus cheeses and other speciality food items (local and imported), as well as coffee and breakfast items, salads, sandwiches, charcuterie, olive oil and fresh-baked bread.

“I want to offer something for everyone, from the local winemaker seeking to try a rare import to the international visitors looking to taste the best of the Napa Valley,” says Fisch.

For visitors, Fisch plans to offer customers a signature Gary’s experience by providing a concierge service where guests can taste wines and arrange to visit neighboring wineries.

With many alcohol beverage stores closing and moving sales solely into the online space, Fisch explains, “the beverage alcohol industry is great as a brick and mortar space. We want our customers to know that we’re always listening. We are constantly evolving our selection according to their drinking habits. We are excited to let our Napa Valley customers know that they can always rely on us for the best recommendations.”
