Lila Wines Adds Bubbly Rosé After Major 2017 Growth

Lila Wines, one of the leading canned wine brands in the U.S., is expanding its portfolio with the introduction of Lila Bubbly Rosé, which will hit shelves in May of 2018.

The launch of this new varietal comes after a growth year for the brand in 2017 as alternative wine packaging, such as canned wine, continued to gain increased attention from retailers and consumers.

Latitude Beverage, the company behind Lila Wines, sold 33,000 cases of Lila in 2017, resulting in more than 50 percent growth year-over-year for its canned wine brand. Lila Rosé was the top selling SKU in the portfolio with more than 12,000 cases sold last year.

Fueling this growth was Lila’s success with national chain and grocery stores — the brand is now sold in more than a dozen national chains, including Meijer, Cost Plus World Market, Harris Teeter and most recently Publix, which took Lila in to all of its locations across the Southeastern U.S. The brand also gained distribution in several large entertainment venues, including Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.

“Canned wine is one of the most exciting and innovative wine trends today,” says Kevin Mehra, CEO of Latitude Beverage Company. “In the past year, we’ve seen more and more retailers and consumers jump on the canned wine trend and national chains are beginning to increase marketing and shelf space for the category. We’re looking forward to expanding the Lila portfolio with Bubbly Rosé and to seeing continued success for the brand in 2018.”

With the addition of Lila Bubbly Rosé, Latitude is projecting to sell 50,000 cases of Lila in 2018, the company says, continuing the trend of growing its canned wine business by close to 50 percent or more year after year.

At the end of 2016, Lila’s first year in market, Latitude Beverage Company made significant changes to the Lila production process to support the brand’s fast-paced growth. This included moving all production and canning to Europe within close proximity of the source wineries.

“Moving production to Europe and away from the competitive canning market in the U.S. gave us the ability to not only achieve a higher level of product quality, but also significantly shorten our production lead-times,” Mehra adds. “This has been key to meeting our retail customers’ needs as we continue to scale Lila nationally.”

Lila Bubbly Rosé is a sparkling wine from the Veneto region of Italy that features strawberry notes. Lila is available in four-packs of 8.4-oz. cans for $11.99. The new varietal launches in May 2018 and will be available nationwide as part of Latitude’s canned wine portfolio that also includes Lila Rosé, Lila Pinot Grigio and Lila Sparkling.
