WSET Launches New App

The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), a global leader in wine and spirits education, has launched a wine tasting app. The new WSET Tasting Notes app helps users create structured and consistent wine tasting notes.

The app, available for free through iTunes and Google Play, is built on the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine (SAT). The methodology breaks down the evaluation of wine, spirits or sake into appearance, nose, palate and conclusion, supported by universal terminology. The steps allow wine drinkers to make detailed and consistent notes when tasting wines, storing all of their notes for easy access on their device, the organization says.

When adding a note, tasters can choose between knowing what they are tasting or tasting blind, and can add a photo of the wine label to help with easy recognition.

The app also includes:
• A database of over 300 wine producing countries and regions
• Over 100 pre-populated grape varieties
• A comprehensive lexicon of commonly used aroma and flavour descriptors
• Pro tips to guide users
• “Blind” tasting notes mode
• Search function to review stored tasting notes
• Ability to upload a photo to wine notes
• Simple, easy to use interface to record and store tasting notes

WSET qualifications are globally recognised as an international standard in wine and spirit knowledge. There are currently nine different qualifications covering wines, spirits and sake available through a network of course providers in over 70 countries and 19 languages.
