Heineken Launches Wild Lager Series with H41

Heineken has announced the release of H41, a limited-edition lager brewed using a “mother” yeast discovered in Patagonia, the company says. It is the first in a new line of wild lagers from the brewer.

H41 is made with a yeast found in nature, characterized by a fuller taste, the company says, with spicy notes balanced by subtle fruity flavors. Future releases in this new line will stretch the lager boundaries even further, the company says.

The name H41 is derived from the latitude coordinate of the beech forest in Patagonia where this yeast was discovered: 41 South.

“H41 targets Millennial premium beer drinkers who are looking for quality over quantity, and are seeking to discover new and interesting beers to add to their go-to’s,” the company says. “They value authenticity, quality, and craft, but also innovation and a human touch in the brands they choose.”

All new additions to the series will be limited-edition beers playing with yeast. H41 will be available at select bars in New York City on draught, at 5.3% ABV, slightly higher than Heineken’s 5.0% ABV.
